Classic Movies to Watch This Summer

Two boxes of movie theater popcorn

In this month’s Colonial Village Blog post we’ll be sharing a list of classic movies that you can enjoy at your Manchester, New Hampshire apartment. These classics will never go out of style. They’re perfect for a movie night or a weekend movie marathon. Check them out this month and don’t forget the popcorn!

Classic Movies

The Shop Around the Corner (1940)

If you liked You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, you will love this one too! This movie is about two lonely coworkers who don't realize that they're actually each other's beloved pen pal.

Some Like It Hot (1959)

This cute little romance is about two ladies’ men — who also happen to be musicians (Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis) who are on the run after witnessing a violent crime. They dress as women and join an all-girl band to escape being caught in the clutches of the mob. They meet up with Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe), a “tonic’ drinking member of the band. Curtis falls in love with Monroe, and the results are both funny and romantically sweet.

Roman Holiday (1953)

Starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn, this story of an overwhelmed, bored and sheltered princess who escapes her guardians and falls in love with an American newsman in Rome is a wonderfully funny, romantic tale.

Casablanca (1942)

“The story of Rick Blaine, a cynical world-weary ex-patriate who runs a nightclub in Casablanca, Morocco during the early stages of WWII. Despite the pressure he constantly receives from the local authorities, Rick's cafe has become a kind of haven for refugees seeking to obtain illicit letters that will help them escape to America. But when Ilsa, a former lover of Rick's, and her husband, show up to his cafe one day, Rick faces a tough challenge which will bring up unforeseen complications, heartbreak and ultimately an excruciating decision to make.”
